Why are people experiencing more stress now? Do we live in a stressful world or is it due to other reasons? Let’s look at it from a different perspective. Part 2
In the previous part of the article, we looked at the general provisions of the topic. Now we will examine in detail each point that contributes to a person’s stress.
I would like to especially note that when presenting the material, I am going to place special emphasis on a number of specific factors that determine a person’s level of stress to a greater extent than others. If you pay due attention to these factors, my dear reader, and work through them well, then you will significantly increase your resistance to various stressors.
- Physical condition of the body.
Here we will talk about the presence of diseases in the body. I think, dear reader, you will agree that it is more difficult for a sick body to resist stressful influences.
The recommendation here is simple: if you are sick with something, you need to go to the doctor and get treatment.
2. Mental state.
Your psyche can be in different modes. I think the reader himself knows about them, based on his experience. For example, a person can feel like: “I am calm”, “I am happy”, “I am not happy”, “I am angry”, “I am offended” and a bunch of other variations. And what state of mind you are in, then it depends on how you will react to external influences, a situation. To illustrate: if you touch a normal, healthy hand, then a person will only feel the touch. If you touch a hand that was recently injured, then you can feel pain. The same with the psyche: if you recently had a fight with a colleague, then you are in an unstable state and you can easily lose your temper. The fact that the psyche can become “agitated”, tense, was well demonstrated by COVID-19 (sitting in apartments, locked up, and for a long time: not everyone can withstand this). Recommendation: if you find yourself in a conflict situation, try to develop the skill of quickly calming down, finding ways to switch your attention to something else (I fully understand that this is difficult to do, but the road will be mastered by the one walking).
3. A person’s values.
These are your “supports”, “base” on which your attitudes are based. If money is the most important thing in life for you, then you will value only money, but you can miss out on good relationships with friends, relatives, family. If fame is the most important thing for you, then you may not notice who is around you. If good health is important to you, then you will adhere to a healthy lifestyle.
Recommendation: the advice may sound trivial, but think about values. The importance of values is well understood in old age. Take the time for this: think alone about what you are ready to rely on in your life, what will be your guiding principle or rule in life.
4. Level of awareness of the world around you.
At first glance, this factor may seem like some kind of nonsense and absurdity. Do not rush to conclusions. If you compare a person of today and a person from the distant past, then a person in the past lived a leisurely and simple life and treated many things, let’s say, superficially. The past person assessed many events in his life, guided by instilled dogmas. In particular, if a person from the past got into various scrapes, then he considered it payment for his some “sins”. And this involuntarily calmed his consciousness (or rather brain). That is, an “explanation” for his troubles was found, then there is no need to worry. It is a little different for a modern person. If something hurts, it means that it may be an oncological disease, and there are bleak prospects ahead. If there is some kind of terrible virus somewhere, then you can become infected with this “crap”, getting bad consequences. Unfortunately, our media know how to scare the population with all sorts of horror stories. Recommendation: try to avoid all unnecessary, informational “garbage”. Give your brain a rest. Observe informational hygiene.
5. Objects that a person considers important.
What will a person worry about? Correct: about what is important to him at the moment. For someone, this is health. For another, his new car. For someone, his position at work. For someone, his children. For someone, the fate of his country.
Recommendation: only the person himself can determine what is important to him at the moment. And yet, it would be good to evaluate this or that object from this side: is it really important from the point of view of universal human values. For example, if the only thing most important to you in life is money, then you will “chase” money, and this “chase” may turn out to be a desire for a mirage in the desert. Let’s say you become financially rich, won’t you start to worry about it… That is, won’t you tell yourself in your old age that because of the pursuit of money you missed out on many other, no less important things in your life.
6. The importance of specific events.
All people are different, so everyone has their own values, desires, aspirations, ways of evaluating the world around them.
Each person in their own way appoints something in their life as the main and important object at the moment. Look. One mother can be very worried about her children when they are at school, and another mother does not even think about it. One person can be frantically afraid for his health, and another can drink alcohol without worrying at all that this is harming his liver. One employee is constantly worried about what other colleagues will think of him, and another employee simply does not care what they say about him behind his back. One girl cries at night and cannot fall asleep because her boyfriend dumped her, and another girl shook herself off, put on a new dress and went to a disco. Often people attach unreasonable importance to some trivial things. And one more thing: some people do not “let go” of some events from the past – they constantly remember past, traumatic incidents, as if trying to change them mentally.
Recommendation: try to develop a habit of not holding control over many things: let the events, processes in your life, so to speak, “live” their life. Trust the common sense of life itself. And let go of thoughts about the “bad” past: consider it your experience and a kind of biography.
7. Work and rest regime.
How you work and rest greatly affects how much energy you will have. We now live in a time when: 1) we sleep little, 2) we go to bed late, 3) we eat late (yes, yes, guys, this is also harmful: take note, in 2012 they discovered the so-called glio-lymphatic system in the brain, which is activated closer to night. But it does not work well if the stomach is full of food, and then this glio-lymphatic system does not cleanse the brain tissue well), 4) we watch all sorts of videos until late and do it most often lying down, 5) we move little, 6) we eat all sorts of unhealthy food: Coca-Cola, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and so on (Hippocrates even said that the roots of many diseases are in the state of our intestines).
Recommendations: fewer films, more walks, eat right. And also – eliminate bad habits if possible: smoking and alcohol (they do not save at all, but on the contrary, only worsen our condition).
Final words.
All of these factors are important, but the main thing is still our perception and assessment of this or that event. Avoid blaming difficult life situations and calling them the culprits of your troubles. It is better to try to change your attitude towards them. I fully realize that this is difficult to do (I myself sometimes find myself in such situations). But if you muster up your courage, you can learn a lot, even good and positive things.
Good health to all!
